I biked today in the MN Ironman. I planned to bike the 65 mile route, and at the 25-mile rest stop in Jordan, I took the 100-mile route. Things were going well, and I went for it! "100"
This route circled my boyhood farm near New Market / New Prague, so it's cool to see the Spring sights from the bicycle. No photos in the rain today. I captured the memories in my mind:
-- The colorful bicyclists -- stretched ahead over the roads
-- Black & white holstein cows by Lydia.
-- Fish Lake... where I first swam. But, windy and cool today.
-- The long - steep hill DOWN into Jordan.
-- Rain drops... on my goggles. Off & on during first 75 miles.
-- St. Thomas church ... Irish home church of my Sullivan / Halloran grandparents. http://www.stthomaschurchmn.com/
-- The Burns' homestead windmill on St. Thomas road.
-- The annual "Swap Meet" http://www.pioneerpowershow.com
-- "Ho, ho, ho... Green Giant." LeSueur MN
-- Noon church bell (chimes)... playing traditional hymns at Holy Redeemer, Montgomery.
-- I stopped by our New Market farm to visit and another rest.
-- Lakeville... Ahhh; that North wind was noticeable today.. http://ironmanbikeride.org/archives/321

Hey Pat - I read your post and it got me thinking about all of the stuff a person can miss by zipping by in a car. Your comments brought back some good memories. Congrats on your 100 mile ride. The best I've ever done is the Defeat of Jessie James ride out of Northfield. This was before we had kids, of course! A couple of buddies and I rode in that one. Do they still have it? I did the 100k ride, and I was definitely the last one in the group. Catch you again sometime soon.
