lodged sweet corn
I prize my patch of sweet corn. Just ask Jean, John & Laura! 2010 is a challenge: Plantings went okay, but June was constantly wet, so I couldn't hoe. It finally dried out this week, so I tilled on Wednesday night. Overnight we got 1.5” of rain and wind --- it lodged half of my patch. Before work on Friday morning, I donned my boots and pushed the tall corn plants up straight. 18 hours later... another 1.5” of rain and wind. This time I photographed it, and re-erected the plants.
Pardon the pun, but I'm rooting for the corn to sprout their base roots, which anchor the tall corn better.
It looks great now. I shouldn't complain because with my corn patch, I can fix it. When storms come, I'd feel sorry for farmers who get acres of lodged corn... it looses some yield, and it's slow to harv
