"Midwinter's Chill"

Winter is my season to venture into hobbies totally unlike gardening and bicycling.   Occasionally, I write briefly about the 2 choirs I sing in.  I grow in my singing skill,  and choir helps me understand just a tiny bit about my daughter Laura's future career as a school band music director!  I feel the excitement of a group of musicians creating music together, and their director leading them forward!

In a reflective way, songs can have lyrics about the wonders of nature.  Today, my Travelers Insurance Choir had our last dress rehearsal for our Christmas Concert before we sing tomorrow, December 15th.

December 11th BLIZZARD left large snowdrifts.

The lyrics in this song called "Midwinter's Chill" have impressed on me the growing nature...  namely the rich soil, new seeds, and green plants wanting to grow into the warmth of sun!   Yet, now as we wait in the last few days before Christmas, nature hibernates in this extreme cold winter.  (We just had a large blizzard, and -15 degree low temperatures).

Enjoy these reflective words of nature.  Think green!  And enjoy the post blizzard photos.     Pat

“Midwinter’s Chill”

Words & music by: Greg Gilpin  @2008

“Frozen lakes, frozen streams
Frozen sky, or so it seems.
All the world, so cold and still,
Hides in slumber from the chill.

But, I with hope, in quiet wait -
and look upon midwinter’s fate.
Knowing, trusting it will end.
Life returns, begins again.

Icy branches, bare and gray,
stretch to search those clouds of day
and pierce the crisp, black veil of night
for one brief touch of sun’s warm light.

Ground, once green,
lies dull and brown.
Waiting for the snow that’s bound to camouflage,
and leave no trace of what’s become a hardened face.

But I, with hope in quiet wait
and look upon midwinter’s fate.
Knowing, trusting it will end.
Life returns, begins again,
begins again.

All the world,
cold and still,
hides in slumber
from the chill."
