Discovering Wisconsin's Nature Preserves

Mississippi River wetlands (Trempealeau National Wildlife Refuge).

Monday, May 11, Day #2:

Today's bicycling trip will have plenty of hills, and a slower / crushed gravel path. I will travel the next 105 miles on bicycle paths, through forests, marshes, and 3 hilltop train tunnels. There will be many opportunities to see and hear wildlife.

Here are my pencilled notes from my log:

- Surprising to see 1 dozen bird watchers, so early in morning.
- Blue Sky.
- No cars, trucks or trains.
- Birds are loud.
- Staff say that many birds migrate through this flyway during the month of May.

- Beaver dam.

- Weasel hops along bike trail... reminds me of Disney's Tigger!

- Phoned Jean and John. Left a phone message for Laura.

- Crushed gravel is slower. I can feel bumps on seat.
- Lost trail at LaCrosse, and lost 30 minutes.

- Warming sun, and I took off layers all morning.
