Sparta-Elroy Trail --- Tunnels, Tunnels, Tunnels (and Hills)

Sparta, WI May 12th (Day #2):

The Sparta-Elroy trail opened only about 1 week ago, so the early season has few bikers. (Trail web link)

Jean will be amazed to hear the many white Trillium flowers are in full bloom in the woods. The hill climbing is giving my thigh muscles a small burn feeling.

Tunnel #1 is 3,800 feet long. Yes, it's dark inside, and dripping wet. I used my bicycle's rear LED light to walk along. Look carefully, and you can see that speck is "the light at the end of the tunnel" !!!

I noticed my Minnesota cell phone does not work in this area, so I could not phone Jean, nor make reservations at the Elroy hotel. I must go ahead efficiently.

Tunnel #2 (1600 feet) was my halfway point to Elroy. I walked it quickly, and my right calf muscle began cramping. Hummm. Stretch it loose, and move on. Heard wild turkeys, so I could think about other things while I pedaling along.

Tunnel #3 (1600 feet) was about the same. Now, pedaling a little downhill, and arrive in a small town called Kendall. It is dark. It is not possible to bicycle 6 miles to Elroy.
